On
Sunday, 4 May, Hillingdon Cycling Club members arrived at Marlow to help
Event Secretary, Paul Marchant organise the Club's first Open 25 Mile Time
Trial of 2008 on the Handy cross/Marlow course (A404/A4). After the
hailstone storms of the previous week, all were delighted to be faced with
bright sunshine in a clear blue sky. Because of the first class entrants
received, some very good times were recorded.
Overall winner was 27
year old John Tuckett from Oxford who rides for the AW Cycles.co.uk who was
last rider off in a field of 80; John recorded a fantastic time of 49.06,
beating Andrew Girling of the Agiskoviner Team with 52.19, Peter Oliver of
the Oxonian CC was third with 52.44.
Former National Champion & record holder, 70 year old John Woodburn, riding
for VC Meudon, clocked 56.43 was first on age standard, his allowance of
1.23.07 giving him the prize by a huge margin over the rest of the veterans.
Winner of the Ladies' Cis Webster Memorial event, incorporated with the men,
was local girl Danuta Tinn who rides for Maidenhead & District CC. Danuta
recorded the third fastest time in the 36 year history of the event,
covering the distance in 58.17.
Tracy Langlands of Agiskoviner Team was second with 59.52 whilst third prize
went to Jackie Dodd of Kingston Phoenix in 1.02.22. Danuta will hold the
Cis Webster Memorial Cup for the forthcoming year for the third time in
succession..

team prize went to the Agiskoviner Team
Hillingdon's Graham Weeks also rode well to record 55.07 to take 13th place
overall. His closest rival Eddie Adkins of Bournemouth Arrow just pipped
him by a mere 6 seconds with 55.01. Graham Pettitt also rode and recorded
1.01.54.
The
previous Saturday Graham recorded 56.28 in the Farnham Road Club's Open 25
Mile Time Trial.
