Open 25 Report 2009
My racing season finished at the end of September and with
Jim and I organizing the open 25 on Oct 11th , cycling
season is definitely all over now. I shall have some weeks
off before re-motivating myself for next year.
This years Open went relatively trouble free, just a smashed
up car ¾ mile from the finish on the A404 dual carriageway
section to contend with. The driver braked to avoid a deer
running across the road and in doing so managed to
completely smash up the central reservation, the kerbside
barrier and his car, the deer escaped scratch free. I was on
my way back to the finish just in front of our Graham Pettit
who was off number 1 when I came across the vehicle in the
middle of the road. Driver and Passengers were amazingly all
ok. As there was debris, fuel, oil and water all over the
road I tried to inform (yell) to riders to take care passing
it until the police arrived, who coned the area off and the
race was able to continue. Would have been rough luck to
have ridden your socks off, then ¾ of a mile from the finish
being told to stop.
Anyway, thanks again to all that helped on the day. At the
prize presentation, Club President Connie handed out the
Mens awards, and it was great to have Ron Webster there to
present the ladies prizes and the Cis Webster Memorial
Trophy. Both Ladies and Mens winners thanked all that had
been involved in putting the event on (it is appreciated).
Just for the record, next Years 25 will be on our local
Amersham Road Course. This course requires fewer marshals,
and I think is a little safer than the Ski Slope.
Incidentally, after the event was all over, I timed myself
around the course. Fifty Seven minutes exactly……. except I
drove around the course and took down nineteen directional
signs !!!!
