McCaffrey Wins Oakley Village RR 2011

Oakley, Buckinghamshire, 52 miles
Event: 9th July 2011
Report: Snowdon Sports

AARON McCaffrey (Virgin Active) took victory in the Oakley Village Road Race in Buckinghamshire on Saturday, winning a seven-up sprint for the line after timing his attack to perfection.

The 41-year-old from Milton Keynes was sat back in the bunch as the decisive break went away early in the 52-mile race, but he was part of a chasing group of seven riders which caught the escapees with half a lap remaining.

The day also included a round of the Women's National Team Series, which attracted a full-strength squad from Motorpoint.

But they could not stop Amy Roberts (For Viored) from taking the victory, leaving the Motorpoint riders to be content with the minor placings.

Roberts broke away with two laps remaining alongside Lucy Garner (Motorpoint), and got the better of her rival in the sprint for the finish as they were lashed by torrential rain.

In fact the whole race had seen showers, which contributed to an early crash as well as one on the final lap.

The two main races were part of a day of cycling events which also included a family fun ride in the morning, which took in one lap of the same circuit the main races used.

This was won by Hillingdon CC Member 13yr old Gregory Holmes

Oakley RR Men's Race 10th July 2010
Oakley RR  10th July 2010

On Saturday Hillingdon Cycling Club's Scott Holmes promoted the annual Village Day Fete in his own very picturesque village of Oakley in which he also organises two top class road races with the help of many Hillingdon members. The weather was very warm and sunny with a light breeze for 60 women who took part in a Women's Team Series covering just over 50 miles (6 laps of an eight-and-a-half circuit) in the morning. This went off very satisfactory.

Special guest, Harry Lodge ex International and Olympic Cyclist officially opened the Fete at 1.00 pm and presented prizes to the women's race winners.

Duncan

In the afternoon in slightly hotter conditions a full field of 60 2nd and 3rd category riders took place which included an additional 13 competitors who qualified for the annual Railsport National Championship. This proved a very exciting race covering the same 50 mile distance as the women, and Duncan Sherwood Hillingdon's only competitive got plenty of cheers from club members who were marshalling the course. Duncan rode well to win the Railsport National Championship for the second year running. The winner of the men's event was a former junior champion of the Hillingdon Cycling Club, Paul Crook who now rides for Beyond Mountain Bikes. Harry Lodge also presented prizes to the men's race winners. In all, it proved a very successful day for Scott Holmes and the Hillingdon Cycling Club.

Woman's Team Series 2009
RICH CANDI CREAM

Hanah Rich - Candi TV/Pinarello RT won the latest round of the Women's Team Race Series event held uniquely as part of the Oakley Village Fete Day when she out-sprinted the small group that managed to avoid the serious problem that struck the race with just 2 kilometres to go.

Organised by Scott Holmes with terrific sponsorship from Build Base, Holme Engineering and Fit 4 Life, the riders faced 6 laps of the circuit, for a distance of 82 kilometres, going through the Oakley village each lap to the applause of hundreds of local villagers who enjoyed a full day of entertainment.

The early laps were the usual attrition with riders leaving the bunch by the rear but some riders caught the dreaded puncture bug as overnight rain has washed grit into the roads.
With a course that boasted as its highest point the bridge that crossed the motorway it was never easy for riders to get away although there were attacks; the two teams vying to go ahead of Series leaders, Squadra Donne/Bikefood/Luciano, Max Gear RT and Mischief Card.com keep vigil at the front and made sure that breaks were brought back as the finish was always going to be a bunch sprint.

The two mid race primes were taken by Louise Eden, Max Gear RT and Nadine Spearing, Altura Patterson; the first attack went after 30 kilometres but was brought back as were attacks at 32 kms but the one with 40 kms covered by Anna Fischer, Max Gear RT looked like staying away but again it was caught.

Jeanette Tebbutt, Max Gear RT tried with just 5 kms remaining but just as she was caught a crash with 2 kms to go,in the middle of the bunch, brought down 8 riders with the major teams caught in the mayhem so it was left to half the bunch to go for the finish placings with Hannah Rich who flew along the pan flat finish to take the win just beating Charlotte Colclough, Mischief Card.com with team mate for the day Katie Fearnehough in 3rd.
